Our producers
We coordinate our UK-wide network of around 25 producers, enabling them to act as a single supplier - exactly what the major retailers need.
Our network producers are all very different, in both scale and nature of their businesses. You can find out more about many of them on our producer map.
The idea of establishing a network of charcoal burners to access national retail markets was suggested by BioRegional Development Group in the early 1990s,
working with the British Charcoal Group. This collaboration resulted in a contract to supply B&Q and the formation of BioRegional Charcoal Company (BRCC) in 1995.
Our network producers make high quality, BioRegional HomeGrown® Charcoal, Firewood and Kindling and deliver them direct to their most local B&Q stores, backed up by the rest of the network whenever the nearest producer cannot supply. This reduces transport pollution and CO2 emissions by 85% compared to imported charcoal. For the supermarkets, we use the nearest producer to the distribution centres who is able to supply.
On average, we sell 300 tonnes of charcoal each year,
900 tonnes of firewood and 135 tonnes of kindling. We have proved that it is technically possible to coordinate a successful supplier network of local producers and develop a domestic income stream that supports woodland communities.
We sometimes have gaps in our producer network so we are always keen to hear from potential suppliers of charcoal and/or firewood and kindling.
